Water looking funny

Hi everyone,

Just had a quick question. I recently just started my new dosing regimine
(thanks wolfenxx) to help get my algae under control:
WC every other day
nitrate 1/2 tsp 3x week
phosphate 1/8 tsp 3x week
potassium 1/4 tsp 3x week
CSM+B plus iron on the opposite days as others

My levels are:
Nitrate 10ppm
PO4 1-2ppm
pH 7.0
KH 8 degrees
-pressurized co2

I noticed for the past two days my water has been a bit cloudy. Not too cloudy but just a hint of it. Am I dosing a bit too much of something? Should I cut down on something? Thanks for the Help!

Pete

How heavy planted is the tank? got a picture?
bump C02 up a little more, you want as close to 30 ppm as you can get, with a kh:8 you want ph at 6.9 to give you 30ppm,
Why are you changing your water so much?

Its not too heavy, if fact I will be ordering more plants because I know I need alot more in there. I would post a pick but dont know how to. I change my water every other day because I have Discus and give them as much clean water as I can.

You could be getting a bacterial bloom or the onset of GW.
Discus like clean water but thats pushin it. Man I dont know how my Discus ever lived for me years ago with all I read...LOL

Discus are not hard to raise... they are temperamental to Breed. I treated my discus like Angels and I gave them away after 2 years of living with Oscars. I wouldnt have even given them away but I traded them for 2 Tiger Knife fish
Why does everyone think they are so hard to keep ?

Thanks for your reply! Great site Buck.
Never said Discus were hard to keep in fact its been a long time rumor. I have been dealing with Discus for some years now, and constant WC's is what helps keep them healthy, vibrant, and in shape. I always enjoyed the planted tanks and Discus..just trying trying to keep everyone happy . Bacteria bloom how does that get started? Thanks for the great input!

Thanks Pete
Discus are a beautiful fish and a lot of people I guess do have some bad luck with them, but I never saw that in my experience. Chalk another one up for the water in the northeast I guess...LOL
There are a lot of theories to bacteria blooms but the most common is unused food/dead plant matter and/or dirty filter media and higher temperature.
Since you have Discus, your temps are probably a bit higher which made me think it could be a BB.
With your frequent water changes and newly started dosing plan it is more then likely the start of GW. I would check the Phosphates first.
What kind of plants you got in there?

Clean as much as you can before water change, prune off any infected plant's if any, keep dosing per your schedule.
How do the plant's look? are they growing? if so just keep at it and be patient, it will turn out

Nice selection of plants Pete, most of your plants are substrate preferring feeders though.
1 tiger lotus (substrate feeder)
a bunch of java moss on driftwood (water born ferts)
2 amazon swords (substrate feeder)
1 red melon swords (substrate feeder)
4 bunches of micro swords (Both WC and SF)
2 of some other plant I forgot the name
1 bunch of hornworts (water born ferts)
1 giant hygro (that isnt so giant and doesnt grow..I got it from Pesmart) (water born ferts)

Your hygro was most likely raised in emersed form and might shed leaves before starting growth which is why it is stalling... dont give up on it, it may get worst before it gets better.
Be sure to get some nutrients (root tab form) under the swords and lotus.
