So yesterday, I checked out both Aqua Life and Aquarium Depot.

I bought stuff at both places, but not much.

Aqua Life had some plants, not a ton but some. I bought some seachem's fluorite from them for my 33. Aquarium Depot has no plants and is primarily for equipment. I bought a koralia nano from him that was about 8 bucks cheaper in price then Aqua Life.

I plan on going out this weekend to hit up Aqua Works, Capital and O.

Anyone wanna come with me? lol

i havent been to Aquarium Depot in a while. it's a cool shop, but geared mostly towards saltwater, as is O st. aquarium.

Aqua Workz has a big selection of tanks and it's a pretty cool shop. Capitol is a total dump. everytime i go i wonder why i bother to come back. i heard it used to be awesome a few years ago, but they have really let that place go. employees dont give a crap and it shows in their livestock.

Exotic is a massive shop. even though they have rows and rows of tanks, their fish selection is lacking IMO.

my favorite shop is JoJo. tiny little place but they have the coolest and healthiest selection of fish. the employees actually know and care about fish. one of the guys is the resident planted tank guru that sets up and maintains all their planted tanks, Jimmy i think his name is, really cool guy. he definitely knows his stuff, although he loves to promote the ADA stuff lol. they have a nice selection of rimless tanks of all shapes and sizes. i purchased my rimless oceanic 57g from them a few weeks ago

I frequent Jojo's fairly often and have picked up some Discus there over the last month and half, including plants, Clown loaches, Ottos, frozen food, and various accessories. My wife bought a 3 gallon rimless nano tank and she has populated it with some red and white banded shrimp (not sure of the correct name), live plants and some Badis Badis fish (tiny little guys!). We also picked up a 32 gallon rimless cube tank for my kids a few weeks ago. No plants in their aquarium. Perhaps later if they maintain interest. We're on a first name basis with Andy (very protective of his Discus ) and Mike. Great people! Don't get Mike started on his 300+ gallon salt aquarium. This past weekend I stopped by with my family for a visit and they are expanding into a vacant space to the left of the store. The expansion will be mostly fresh water fish, etc. They expect to be done with the remodel in two to three months. Wishing them the best of luck!

I too have pretty much given up on Capitol Aquarium. It's kind of sad, as they used to be the premier shop in Sac many years ago. Besides Jojo's, we visit Aqua Workz and Exotic on a pretty regular basis.

^ Yeah I'm looking forward to their expansion, saw them working on it this weekend when I stopped by. I spoke to Jimmy and he said they had big plans for planted tanks. They'll be running several co2-injected tanks so they'll be able to keep a better stock of plants! Jojo and Exotic are the only two I visit now

My homie works at JoJo's so when I used to go to UC Davis this was the shop I liked most. Whenever I head up there though, I only go to exotic, they have a lot of rarer fish, not necessarily planted tank fish but you'll find some gems every once in a while.
