Driftwood / Driftstump [56k!!]

I've found this great stump and I could not resist, just got it pressure washed and clean up , I'll go later and get a container at target and fill it with water and salt and let it cure for a month or 2.

The thing is about 4 ft high and the longest root measures about 4 ft from the center of the stump.

I don't have a big enough tank to put it in, unless if I get divorced than I might. So the question is will I find a buyer ? or should I just split it up and sell it that way ? what you guys think? And how much you guys think it may be worth?

The thing is really nice looking and was there for a good 8 to 9 years if not more. I had to bring the chainsaw and chop it off and had somebody help me carry it out. I think it weights about 50lbs.

Geez! That is awesome No idea a price on something that large... But if you can be patient I'd recommend holding off for a buyer to take it whole. Piecing it wont yield much return as the fragments would be smaller and lack the overall character that seems to possess. It doesn't have too many root stems and therefore needs to remain intact to be successful in my humble opinion.

that's a gorgeous cedar stump right there.
If you want to sell it whole, you'll probably have to find a local buyer. waaayyy to big and heavy to ship intact

it looks like that there's two distinct root sections, one option might be to cut the lower one off, and maybe cut some of the height off the top, and you could probably fit it in a smaller tank, as long as you don't mind a bit of it sticking out the top

I did somthing similar with this stump. I cut down some of the roots so I could fit it snuggly into a 20 gallon high.

I'm pretty sure Cedar leeches out toxins and isnt a suitable wood for aquaria use...

I really like the rotten look of it I am not a big fan of smooth driftwood, but everyone,s got their own taste.

I am not sure if it is Cedar, it was in a pretty large area with almost only pines and red oaks. I was thinking it was a red oak but I may be wrong. anyways thanks for the input so far!

Pine is deff not safe for aquaria use, if you need some DW Flavio, I've got a bunch of smaller Manzanita pieces that would fit your 10

I also think Oak and Pine decay too quickly in water to be used in an aquarium

I've got several pieces of cedar root that look similar to that, I don't have any experience with oak roots though so I can't say.

I hate to burst your bubble, but a piece that large requires a Huge tank, on the scale that most of us only dream about. I think finding a buyer for it will be very tough, at least if you want it to go in an aquarium. You likely could sell it for landscaping however.
