Default Proper planting method?

So I just ordered some dwarf hairgrass and HC from ebay and they will be arriving any day. I am curious I have never payed close attention to planting and want to know the proper way to plant these. The HC is coming bunched and the hairgrass is coming potted. I know not to just stick them in the soil and let it go. How do i properly plant these? I have a 3g picotope btw.

For potted plants I always pull off as much rock wool as possible before putting it in the substrate. I also ordered some dwarf hairgrass and awaiting their arrival too!

For both hc and hairgrass, you want to seperate each little stem and plant it. If you don't have the patience, then plant seperate it into the smallest clumps that you could possibly do without ripping your hair out. With the hairgrass, this can be very time consuming even with planting only a 3 gal. If all your ferts, lighting, and co2 are inorder, the smaller you plant the clumps, the faster it'll form a carpet. Hth...

nokturnalkid is right. They have to be seperated some. Hairgrass will take off better that way. Plant them like this:

Soon it will turn into this:
