I'm curious, after reading other threads about fish clubs...
Have any of you NYers ever gone to a local fish club meeting around here? Either NYC or Long Island? Are they worth going to? Auction fun at all? |

I dont really know of any in the NYC area. it would be great if one was set up, I would hang out. people are anti-social in NYC in a way. would love to meet with people at a Cafe or Bar and do some swap and shop / chat action about planted tanks

So let's start one. I live on Long Island, and work in NYC. I would be up for it.

dr.tran, not that I think yet another local group is needed, but...
as a member of meetup.com, I noticed about 30 local people wanting to form a meetup group on that system, so you might want to register and check it out. unfortunately, meetup group mediator sections are not free, but it might be a good place to get established since nobody is doing it yet using that medium. http://aquariums.meetup.com/cities/u..._york/?gj=sj42 keep in mind that freshwater planted tank interest is only a small minority of people doing any aquarium related hobby. this is why it's best to join a large established group, doing occasional planted tank stuff, then trying to start your own. honestly; you'll learn a hell of a lot more searching and reading and posting on dedicated forums like this, then any local group. I know there are fabulous groups in other major cities, but for some odd reason, NY simply does not promote planted tanks. |

I will give the Brooklyn Aquarium Society a try this Friday. Will any of you be there?

Thank you for the link. Although I cannot help but to feel there is an negative intent and you are like wet blanket on christmas eve, I only hope your criticism was ment to be a constructive criticism. I will look into that in the future. I am more interested on the social gathering on a common hobby. After all, humans are social creatures are we not? If I can learn something new, then that is just an extra bonus. Also I would love to be able to trade locally if possible. I can't see why we can just sit in starbucks enjoy a good cup of coffee and have a conversation about a hobby with some of the memebers here which I believe everyone cares about. So I am still optamistic about what can become of this. PMs have been sent to those who are interested. I hope to meet some of the people here in this forum in person. |

meetup.com is a place where living people can more easily coordinate live meet ups with each other in the real world. it's just a lot easier to deal with than posting on this forum, and playing telephone tag. you can broadcast events to your groups list, then have individuals remark on your plans, and confirm their interest in attending, and host a private forum specific to your membership. it is NOT intended as a social network like facebook or myspace. |
