Default Substrate

Hi,

I have bought the new ADA Amazonia 9L and 10kg River sand. Have bought a few plants like Swords, Riccia, Java Ferns, Combumba etc.

Do I need to wash the ADA & River sand before putting in the 38 Gallon tank, 3 feet high, 13 inches by 21 inches lxb. Should I layer the river sand at the bottom and layer on top the ADA Amazonia?

I wouldn't layer sand and aquasoil. There would really be no reason to have a layer of sand under the AS.

As already mentioned, do not wash the AS; it will become mud. Laterite is not the same as riversand; laterite is a porous, iron rich soil. I also see no reason to add a layer of sand under the AS.
