Default Woah, an 80-year-old Fish!

Check this out:

Quote:
If you thought that 40 year old sixbar angelfish is old, then let us introduce you to Granddad. Granddad is an Australian Lungfish, Neoceratodus forsteri, living at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago who is more than 80, eight-zero, years old. Granddad first came to live at the Shedd Aquarium during the 1933 World’s Fair.
Definitely go read the article. Interesting!

Update: here's the original CBS story about it.

Grandad! He was in a presentation on primitive fish that I attended this past weekend

To clarify, he has been part of the exhibit for 80 years, and was full sized when added. So it is older than 80!

You're right - definitely older than 80.

I had no idea he was that old when I saw him last year. Just thought it was 30-40 years.

Always floored to see fish kept in captivity for so long. Gives me hope for so many of the aquatic species that are endangered.

haha, And I have only had mine or 8 or 9 years! I had the graet, great pleasure of seeing Solomon David present this weekend. Man, so many neat fish and so much cool conservation work being done in the US (gar, paddlefish, sturgeon, etc)!

22 Year old Gold nugget, and a 20 years old Synodontis, but both could have lived longer I suspect.

I'm just a fish killer.

I would settle for a dedicated webcam focused on them.

B..But, aren't koi's known to fairly easily get to over 50 years? I believe the record is over 200. Or they don't count on this list since its a pond fish?
