okay since i can't sit still:

the red was dying in my other tank, i figure bc the light is low there. This must be higher light since the bulb is practically on the the water. I'm hoping it starts to thrive here.

also, snail eggs; snails everywhere whether i like it or not!

water is clearing

also, I may foil the inside of the light to help reflect the light downward. it looks like i'm losing light outward

Looks good. Welcome to the madness. These are definitely addicting, I've set up two so far and am starting a third shortly.

i've seen and like yours! I'm already thinking about moving my fissidens into its own little square glass jar because I may start excel dosing, and I know how much fissidens hates it

soil capped with sand

and I will be adding MTS to tunnel the sand cap

UPDATES
current setup: GE mountable cabinet light (with removed white diffuse cover) with zoomed floramax T8 bulb

fissidens vase

anacharis/red plant vase

with this one, it was gross. a nasty film on the surface, unclean colored water and a god awful smell. I think it's my soil, must be old or something. So I emptied it out, and now the base is plain gravel with an osmocote+ tab. I'm going to start dosing iron to help with the red
