Overfeeding question

What water parameters change when fish are overfed too much -- causing algae blooms ??

too much Phosphorous ?
too much Nitrate ?

I notice some brands of fish food have a MIN of 1.0% Phosphorous, while some have a MAX of 0.6%.

Some food like shrimp pellets seem to indicate they have zero...
(I doubt I could dump a whole container in without causing damage

)...

What foods do you guys recommend for community tanks with a lot of fish like tetras, danios, corys, and angels ?

wardlys flake food. Its softer then the tetramin stuff and it don't cloud as much. It comes in a blue can.

Azoo 9 in 1 Micro Pellet.You can feed lots of them without much trouble.
I don't know about corys since they are very shy to swim to the surface for food,maybe before the food reaches the bottom other fish already gobble them up.

I feed the New Life Spectrum line of pellets. Every fish I own gobbles them down like there is no tomorrow.

I second the new life spectrum. It's a great product. I also supplement using OSI shrimp pellets, vivid color, and spirulina. I also supplement with Hikari algae wafers.

There is nothing like a balanced mixed diet...

I once read the results on an experiment with guppies where the fry, devided into control groups, where some fed single types of food, and some a variety of foods at every meal...

The bunch which got the larger variety in food did not only grow bigger, but the tails were noticably better developed with very few small tails.

P.S I believe in watching my fish eat at all times, this way you can observe for any fish not showing appetite and spot uneaten food... (with angels its hard to overfeed, the keep begging even when there stomach looks like marbles.

Lots of small meals are much better than large meals.

But then again, I have alot of time...

How did you manage that? My ram, Agassiz' apistos, and scarlet badis won't eat it.

My Rams and Apistos all eat it. I just put it in the tank and the feeding frenzy begins. Even the Corys love the stuff. Try not feeding them for a couple of days and then putting some in the tank. Also what size pellets do you have? I always get the tiny ones.

They're the tiny ones. I do admit, I love feeding my fish a good dose of blackworms to encourage those fish that might breed to get into breeding condition. After my current batch of worms runs out I'll try starving them for a few days and having another go at the NLS. I have plenty of fish that absolutely love it, but I'd like to try feeding it exclusively for 10 days straight to see if it does indeed enhance colors as well as it claims to.
