Default HC: potted or on mat

I plan to plant HC using the dry start method. Is it better to buy HC grown in pots or on mats. Either way I will pull it apart and plant it in little batches. Is one easier to work with or does one grow better using the DSM?

Get large mats of HC because they are the cheapest you will find. You should order from SubstrateSource as they are probably the cheapest you'll find online:

I found faster growth from HC that was grown emmersed, because it didn't have to transition in a dry start. Most commercial HC is probably grown emmersed but if you buy it locally, you might want to see how long the lfs kept the potted HC in the tank.
