50-gallon Tanganyika Setup

I'm working on restocking and replanting my 50G setup as a Tanganyika-themed riparium. Here's a quick photo from today.



I'll have more pictures of this tank on the way. I might have new fish later on this week.

Here's a quick "grow-in" shot from today. It looks a little thin right now, but these plants all grow pretty fast.

There is a group of Synodonits lucipinnis and a group of the Julidichromis transcriptus "PEmbe". I want to add some kind of shoaling fish to swim around in the water column.

Here's another new plant that I am trying out in this setup.

St. Job's tears (Coix lacryma) is a tropical grass related to corn (Zea mays) that grows well in wet soils. It is pretty easy to start from seed and these are seedlings that I got about six weeks after sowing.



This plant can grow to 48"+ tall, but I hope that I will be able to control its size with pruning. I already put all of these little seedlings in riparium planters and I have more sprouting on the way.

Sweet. I really like lake tang fish. I was going to do a Tang setup with multi's...

Thanks. I had to switch some things around and the tank is not looking so photogenic right now, but it's coming along.

The St. Job's tears are rooting well in their planters and growing fast. This might end up being a good plant if it doesn't grow up too tall. Here's another closeup of the sprouted seedling. I wondered how the little plant embryo could ever break through that rock-hard seed coat, but when I examined them I found that the root and the shoot actually grew through the holes in either end of the seed.
