Some sort or snail...

not really sure what kind... it doesnt seem to be a ramshorn snail...

it's about 1/4" in diameter

I think I have the same one, I don't know what it is either...the shell is kinda translucent, isnt it?

OMG....ITS the dreaded Tetra Eating round snail!!!!!!!

I have no idea what type of snail this is but I have em in my tank as well. They dont seem to be harming anything....just kinda cruise around and float sometimes....shell has air in it and is translucent.

I have them too. I have seem them on my plants as the pic suggest, but haven't seen any damage resulting from them.... If they get out of hand, I hear loaches enjoy a meal of snail on occasion :shock: ....

Their not "A Sexual" since this one has been in the tank for about 3 months and I have not seen any babies yet. I have 4 "YO-YO" Loaches that love to eat my thousands of MTS but they have not touched this guy yet.

I agree with rossi. i have seen them mate, and the other day, i just saw one giving birth to small clear eggs.Had them for about a month, and still, they are minimal, and they do eat lots and lost of algae, they even beat my SAE since they actually eat all the way to the glass, where as my SAE only eats the upper half and leave the "older" algae intact.

My dad got them from his friend who is a professional aquarist. he keeps plants, too, so i guess they are not harmful to plants...anyway, does anybody really know what is the name of this snail, are they a type of ramshorn????

I suspect they are Neritina reclivata a form of algea eating snail said to get to the size of a dime....

Ohhh! They are great snails then, even better than MTS? If you are'nt after about substrate tilling that is...

An algae eating/steady reproduction snail that stays small is always good...

edit: forgot to mention that they eat algae off of leaves, too! and they don't harm the plants while doing so....I could clearly see the "snail trail" on my amazon swords covered with algae

Looks like just a common pond snail , I had only 1 for a few months as well rossi and the next thing I know I had a bunch ! :shock:

They are harmless though and easy to control.

One day soon though you will look at the tank and you will have an army of "dots" on your glass marching around. :lol:

That's not N. reclivata, nor is it a ('common') pond snail; see this discussion. It's just a larger species of ramshorn snail, probably of the genus Planorbis.

ID on these please if anyone can help out. First one looks like a Ramshorn???? Other one MTS???? I have really no idea....just hoping for some ID from you experts!

First two pics is of a common pond snail, I'd say genus Physa except these have a sinistral shell and yours don't. Last pic is a ramshorn probably of the subfamily Planorbinae. I won't dare try to ID it beyond that!

Mike, this is from your 1-megapixel camera?? Great job!

Thanks for the ID! As for the camera...YES...its from my Sony DCR PC100 which is a digital movie camera/1megapixel still. I am trying to get better photos....practice practice practice! Thanks for the praise!
