Sad Windelov

I noticed my windelov is starting to brown/yellow.... It has lovely green new growth though. Is the new growth just adapting compared to the old growth? (Current old growth is still from the LFS)

Parameters:
5g tank
0 ammonia/nitrite/nitrate
7.6 pH
80* temp
8 drops flourish comprehensive on 1x weekly
10 drops flourish iron 2x weekly
10 drops flourish excel daily
10watt compact fluorescent 5-8hrs daily
3/4 tsp of fluorish equilibrium per 5g, and proportionate dosing with water changes.

I'm thinking of just trimming back and letting the new growth take over since it looks considerably healthier than the old growth that kind of "belongs" to the LFS setup. Would like opinions.

Hi Felix! Nice t' meet you.

If your nitrate is indeed 0, then that might be the problem. Plants need nutrients, and if they are amiss, then they will still grow, but basically loose their existing substance as fast as they build it.

Your plan sounds good, but also look into supplying (very, very little) macro nutrients NPK if your test kit is correct and N is zero.

It is definitely correct, my LFS gets the same results as well.

I just realized I forgot to add that I dose equilibrium with water changes (extremely soft water in Washington, my snail was going dormant before this).

Would that affect my need to investigate macros?

Is that plant anchored to a piece of wood or rock? The base of the plant is not visible in the picture. But make sure you are not burying the roots & rhizome....this is a common mistake that will ultimately kill java ferns of all varieties.
