Default Marimo ball turned brown

Ive had a marimo ball in my tank for a few years. Its 3-4 inches long, but has turned totally brown. There are other, smaller ones in the tank as well, but they are still nice and green. Any ideas what would make the one turn brown? I read somewhere that cutting it up can sometimes revive them. Anyone tried that and had it work? Any way to get it to green it up again?

I have a 26 gallon bowfront, no fertalizers except what they get from the fish. Low light, no CO2, tank is 72 degrees. I take them out and rinse them every few months.

If brown chloroplasts are dormant.
Was it hiding in a dark place in your tank?
Usually revives on its own. Would suggest putting it in a place with more light.
Usually all it takes for it to start chuggin!

Agreed. If left some where dark it'll brown. Of if you use products like excel or algaefix it'll brown. Just put it in the light it'll come back to life

It was in a darker place in the tank and the tank didnt have a lot of light either. I will probably take it out and pop it in a bowl in the sun for awhile to help it out. Thanks!
