Default quiet canister filter?
ordered and received a marine land canister filter, to loud.
the problem is that we will not be putting the filter in a cabnet to muffle the noise. so what is the quietest filter in your opinion? (for an 80 gallon tank)

Try fluval. Its soundless. I have the marineland canister as well and it's noisy. Wish I had bought another fluval. Exchange that marineland - you won't regret it.

+1 on the Eheim 2217. I can't hear that thing even when I stick my head inside the cabinet below my tank. Give it some time to settle in (and purge the air bubbles by shaking gently / laying it partially sideways) before you judge how loud it is.

+1 on the eheim too. I've got one running on my 55g and its insanely quiet, and does a great job too

If you take the time to hear my Fluval canister you may want to read "The Princess and The Pea".

Fluval = very quiet hum.

I have a sun sun 304b and it's so quiet that I have to put my hand on it to make sure it's still running. I've had fluval's and ehiems and they are just as quiet just more expensive.

Eheim 2217. I have two of them for my 73 gallon and they are not in a stand in the living room. Never hear them operating.

Eheims are supposed to be very quiet. There are 'failures' though, and my 2211 is one if them. The humming is audible across the living room. But then I guess you can be unlucky with any brand.

fluval g series is very quiet my airator is louder than it but it is kinda pricy
