I have a planted 90g with a 48 inch three bulb T5HO fixture. I don't like the stock bulbs at all. I feel like I have seen a lot of postive comments about giesemann bulbs for plant color, growth and fish color. I would like to try them. I think it was recommended to get a midday bulb and aqua flora bulb. WHat should I use for the third bulb? should I get another a third giesemann bulb and which one? OR should I leave one of my 65 of 10K in the fixture? Thank you

I run two midday and two aquafloras over my 72. I have to say they are nice bulbs. However, the second aquaflora makes the tank look two pink. I would have rather had 3 middays and one aquaflora now tat I see what it looks like.

I need a fourth? |

The middays are very green. Grab a midday an aquaflora, and a bluer type bulb such as a wavepoint red(trust me its purple) or even a whiter blue bulb like a ge starcoat..
The geisseman bulbs alone are quality bulbs but they dont have quite the right coloring when stacked up against other bulbs My combo is a ge starcoat, aquaflora, geise midday, and wavepoint red which is purple and probably the most soothing to the eye. Not tomention it makes plants and fish look grreeeaatt Ill post a pic of my bulb setup here shortly when i can get on my computer

I really want my fish colors to show better. Should I do a midday aqua flora and wave point? Is the wave point good for the plants? Should i be considering a fourth bulb?

3 should be good depends on reflectors and all kinds of sciencey stuff. I do not run all 4 bulbs all day I run 2 for 10 hours with a 3 hour 4 bulb Noon period.

blazing thanks for the picture. IF I go midday, aqua flora, and wavepoint red do you think I will get good plant growth and good color on my fish?

is the wavepoint red hard to come by? I am having trouble finding it on the websites of the places I typically order from. For whatever reason the few places that i have found the wavepoing red don't have the giesemann aquaflora 48inch! Would like to find all three bulbs at one place to only pay one shipping.

alright. all bulbs ordered. The wavepoint red is definitely obtainable, its just finding a site that had all three bulbs was tricky.
This might be a dumb question, but does the placement in the fixture make a difference? Should I put the wavepoint in the front? |

Something to note when using a lot of bulbs. If you are doing a noon burst with two, you may want the most "normal" colors on and have your colored bulbs come on with the burst. Many bulbs will make your tank look really odd on their own, but when combined with other colors, it looks very good.
Secondly, the front most bulb tends to make the biggest difference in the way the tank looks. If your front bulb is blue, it will look more blue, even if all your other bulbs are different colors. Swap that blue with a red, even though you still have all the same bulbs, your tank will look more red. Other members have said the same thing as my observations. Sorry, not directly related to the subject matter but don't be afraid to use bulbs that you would think look ugly, it can look amazing and you can minimize the impact of odd coloring by sticking a 6500-8000k bulb up front, or whatever you personally like best.
