Looking for LFS in San Jose/Milpitas area

Hey all

I am looking for a decently priced shop that sells CPD and some plants like regular pennywort. The only two LFS I have found are Dolphin Pet Village in Campbell which I tried today and they had CPDs but only four and I want a group of six plus they were $8 each and Neptune Aquatics in Milpitas which I am going to try this weekend but I've heard its pretty pricey. Does anyone know any other LFS in that area? south san jose/blossom hill is a bit too lengthy of a drive for me though, unless they are an amazing store.

King aquarium is pretty nice. It's few stores down King Eggroll on Story

neptunes aquatics is a top notch store. check them out

Dolphin/Neptune/king aquarium are pretty good. Neptune runs co2 on their plant tanks and has a good selection of driftwood and rocks. Dolphin has more tanks and stands but most of the time their planted stuff has algae. Depends on what you're looking for. Neptune sells aqua soil too.


Cpd are usually around 7$ each at most places.

You should check out the local clubs if you haven't already.

SFBAAPS is the bay area plant club and has really cool people with many different plants. You can join at sfbaaps.org by joining the forum. The meet dates are also posted on the forum.

Also there is SVAS and there are some people who bring CPD's occaisonally which go for decent prices. Maybe ~$8 for a bag of 3 at times, but it really depends on who is there and if a lot of people want them. They meet on the first saturday of the month. Topics are posted at there website siliconvalleyaquariumsociety.com and I believe that January's is supposed to be an aquatic plant talk given by Tom Barr.

I just decided to buy the plants I wanted online but I'm still looking for CPDs! I'm not having luck with my RCS from Dolphin though. I went back to get another six pack but they are closing down on the 15th and had already cleared the RCS/CPD tank, boo! I am thinking about clubs but I am pretty shy so I don't know if I'd be up to it, same with meeting up with people. I did go to Neptune Aquatics a while ago but didn't get anything but I am going back this week.

if you are ever down in salinas, Pet Fun is a pretty good one. they model their store after large chain stores, but they are privately owned. like most LPS, they will special order anything you want.

they usually have some pretty good deals on plants. i got several bunches of ludwigia glandulosa and rotala magenta from them for less than 2 dollars a bunch. i know its a bit of a drive, but its a pretty nice place.

if you ever go there and buy a tank and fish on the same day, be sure to tell them that you have other tanks the fish will go into. they wont sell you fish if you intend to put them in an uncycled tank.

If you can make it out to SF, you should check out Aqua Forest on Fillmore near Japantown. That place is quite impressive!

I'm going on holiday to uh..point reyes? some area near marin apparently i dunno... but I will be sure to stop by Aqua Forest on the way back! It sounds awesome. I wish I had known about the shop in salinas when I took trips to monterey last year, i don't know if i could handle the drive up there again.
