Algae Grower

This fish has been in my tank about 4 months now and came in with a purchase of 4 SAE's. Initially, all four looked identical but he's since developed a separate look and personality.
He's incredibly hard to photograph as he's hiding at even the slightest sign of movement outside of the tank so I had to bait him with food and wait about 25 minutes for even this photograph. The other three SAE's are normal happy-go-lucky SAE's. Any help with an ID?

Chinese algae eater. Sometimes a great fish, sometimes the devil incarnate. I think it depends on what type of personality the fish has...

Ah, the jerk! He is a CAE. I googled photos of CAE's and must have failed to look closely.
Thanks for the help! |

Yeah, I had read about CAE's when looking for my SAE's as was forewarned they are aggressive. That said, this guy is non-existent in my tank and I only catch occasional glimpses of him.
That said, he's in a Tiger Barbs species specific tank so they're pretty resilient. |

It should be fine with aggressive fish like barbs.

My CAE, which started out silverish, is now golden with spots. He does still scrubs leaves and gravel of certain types of algae.
He's only recently started showing aggression toward certain types of fish in the tank mostly large flat fish like gourami's and he really hates my emporer tetras. He doesn't take notice of my school of tiger barbs, priscillia tretras, corys, and paradise fish. I find that in larger tanks and keeping him well feed with cucumber slices keep his bad attitude in check. |
