Hi everyone. I have a 40 on tank and I think one of my fish may have ick. I only see one spot on his side but he's not swimming like he use to do. I was going to turn the heat up to 85 for a week. Should I turn off my co2 while the heat is turned up? I have a open top tank
Thanks |

There is less dissolved oxygen at higher temperatures, so you might want to turn down the co2, if not stop it completely. It is of course, best to quarantine the fish to medicate it. Regardless of what you do, just remember that quick changes that stress your fish will make them more susceptible to ich.

Wrong way..heat up co2 need to go up as well, unless you dont care about the plants. If you use Kordon Ich-Attack you dont need to play with heat and co2.

I would do at least 85 I put mine at 88-90 for about 2 weeks
I dont treat with C02 but I did continue to use glutaraldehyde 2.5% and had no issues but I also keep my tanks at 85-86 year round |

read and decide. That's the oldest write up and there are a number of newer ones. I know you're against meds but removing the snail nothing else is at risk. The treatment most miss all together is to worm or parasite treat our fish. We treat our dogs, cats, pigs, horses, cows,,, the list is endless. But not our fish. Not anymore for this fish keeper. Ick is a parasite. I now start internally with all new fish and go from there. Since I started doing that I've eliminated the majority of weird things folks post about, including Ick. Fish, plant and shrimp safe. HTH

I always though quick cure was not plant safe. go temp method first anyway, as I found the effective dosage of ich attack to be about 4x the recommended on the label three times a day. that's a loooottt.

I used quick cure in my planted tank before and they all lived, though it may depend what kinds of plants you have?

I used the AP QuIck cure only issue I had was it stained the silicone in the corners of my tank a little but I guess I could have quarantined the fish but I wanted to make sure I treated all the fish
my tank was pretty heavily planted at the time and I had no issues since then I have kept my tank temp at 85-86 |
