Shrimp Genetic Question

I seem to be having issues finding any in depth information relating to shrimp genetic traits. Before I got into shrimp I was into bettas and there is tons of info out there relating to dom/rec traits, color layering, etc. I am just wondering if anyone knows of a good book or site that would have some of this information.

ShrimpNow is a great forum with shrimp-specific information. But so is TPT - just use the search feature. Tons of discussions on the matter of shrimp genetics.

look through the few websites about shrimps.. planet invert is good but recently someone told me the blue pearl has been renamed to a different trait.. it was used to be neocardina zhangjiangnesis.

I believe now it is neo palmata

I'm into undertaking genetics as well, but really not much exists in layman's terms for colors and genetics of shrimp. Weird since so many people breed shrimp.

Thats kind of what I was thinking. Its simple science though. X+Y=x. If a few people got together and shared what they know, shrimp would be as easy to breed for color as bettas. Maybe I am missing something though.

Nothing simple about it if you ask me! When you deal with something that often doesn't breed true it's just not a simple equation.

Ah, but that's because of all the heterozygous traits. If more were pure, it would be much more straight forward.

Even with all the heterozygous traits a few clutches out of two shrimp should tell you all you need to know about the makeup of a shrimp. I guess I have a new question, are shrimp like some other animals that contain predictable layers of color (fish example http://www.bluebettausa.com/colors.htm )?

Depends on the shrimp you are talking about. Crystals I have no experience with, so can't answer that one from personal experience...but numerous theories abound on what makes a blue bolt, blue jelly, KK, hulk, etc.

Neos seem to be more variations of color and selectively bred instead of layers of pigment.

Rafał Maciaszek had a great writeup on his site but when I went to go to it, google says its full of malware so I won't link it but he has some good theories on the different colors and what color related to what and what color can morph into others, etc.
