Nah.....I have them in with my betta and he doesn't even look at them. He is a pretty relaxed dude though. I have another betta that comes up to the glass and lashes out at anyone who gets close. Maybe I'll try a few in there and see how that goes.....

Betta generally aren't snail eaters. You might be thinking of dwarf puffers who are, and even then, they have a problem with mts shells.

The only time my betta bothers any of my snails is when he is bored it seams and goes and picks at one then just swims away. He will flare up at them sometimes and then just swim away but hasnt ever damaged or hurt one.

When I had a betta, he would knock snails he saw climbing up the sides off the glass but never tried to eat/kill them.

how do you keep the population down and not turn into a snail epidemic. Also anyone in Hawaii know where to get these guys?

Consider moderating feeds. Overfeeding largely attributes to snail overpopulation.

You can put the lettuce in a spice jar or salt shaker and leave it overnight.

My f-bettas will actually swim around their tank HUNTING snails. The MTS however are better protected so I don't think I've actually lost a MTS to a betta.
Pond snails & ramhorns in my tanks will be yanked out and eaten within a few hours, but this is my betta. Yours may not not care as much. I have pictures of this because I couldn't believe all the empty shells laying on the bottom. It's nice to know if I go on vacation I can just drop in a bunch of snails into the tank. |
