how long to quarantine for snail eggs?

I got some plants last week, which had a couple of tiny snails on them.

I pulled out the snails, and put the remaining plants in a dish with water to quarantine them. What's a reasonable length of time to rule out additional snails/eggs on the plants?

They were about 1.5mm and I think they might be a couple of pond/bladder snails and two ramshorn snails. They've gotten bigger already, but still too tiny for me to positively identify.

The ramshorn snails I am ambivalent about. But I would like to avoid the pond/bladder snails if I can.

Do assassin snails eat either of these?

Hah... I bet if you quarantined for snail eggs the eggs would just hatch and lay more eggs... buahahahaha!

The only way of getting rid of them is to dip the plants.. but then not all plants can handle a dip. but I've read several posts where snails made it to their tanks inspite of being dipped. Try Assassin snails.

lol +1 on what chlor siad ... or you can throw your plants in a tankful of pea puffers... i bet those plants would be picked clean in a few days

Pea puffers wont eat ramshorn snails.. my pea puffers didnt eat any snails

what kind of plants are they might be able to help by telling you if they will handle a dip or not

Ha! OK. I guess I'm naive...

I thought that if I removed the visible snails, and didn't see any new ones after x days/weeks that perhaps I had no eggs...

The plant is frogbit, which I believe is fairly hardy.
I have quite a bit, so I can test a dip on some.

Do I use a diluted bleach or hydrogen peroxide?

And, will assassin snails go after bladder snails? I thought they might be too small.

I believe most people dip with H2O2 as that will degrade by itself over time.

Assassin snails will go after bladder snails. But you are correct in that they won't touch small ones.

hmm i can't say i have any ramshorn but definitely whatever snails i had in my nano are just empty shells picked clean. they're fiesty little buggers
