This site has them, or had they all seem to be out of stock. Perhaps though you could contact them to see if they will be instock any time soon. Good Luck, also might try aquabid ive seen them there from time to time. Vampire Crabs
Pet Supermarket can order them. I currently have six i house in a terrarium. They do charge 13.99 each though ><. Awesome little critters though. Four of mine are vampire the other two are the red devil variety.
If worse comes to worse, there is a shop who can get them in if asked for. You could always ask someone here (Livermore, CA) to pick you up some and send them to you.. Not sure how well they ship
from all i saw.. it was the correct environment.. there is not much out there on where/how they should be housed..
they like to borrow in the substrate.. so i got some zoo med riversand to mix like a one to one ratio with cocofibers.. to at least 4".. and fill with water to about the 2" mark..
some others had water features.. some just moss.. i was going to use the mix and still have to stuff for when i am ready..
also.. i was going to enclose the top.. to keep in mositure
i believe they will like the moist.. but not some much saturated..
i was looking for like a bowl that i can place in the substrate.. to see if the would actually like being in the water.. but i believe they are terrestrial then anything
OOH.. another thing.. if you buy from LFS>. IF you see them.. my LFS had like 4 shipments come in and it was almost always 9-1 Male.. and female usually DOA
hmmm. So is it the transit for shipping or what is the ultimate killer? And substrate wise, I was planning on having it moist but not water logged (since in a high humidity set-up, dry substrate is pretty much impossible to achieve) - thoughts?
Its all about providing them caves
Temperature in the lower 70s
Light humidity, with a water feature.
I like to provide more dry area in the tank and more wet area.
I provide plenty of live food in the form of crickets and superworms.
I provide crab pellets and take them out of tank after 6-7 hours.
Substrate I use common cocofiber, they will burrow into it.
I just got a batch of 50 in, I had some dead on arrival as per usual, but once they chill out in the tank they will be fine. The real hope is to get a mix of male/female and harvest baby crabs. Right now I have red devils which are showing great red color and common yellow/purples.
They really do require dry and wet areas in the tank.
These guys look so cool! Anyone have pictures of the habitats you've created for them?
