Hey TPT,
From what I gather I have gotten Clado algae from a Marimo Ball I bought a while back, and now I am torn on what to do!!!:angryfire
First off am I correct that clado algae STINKS???
If so that is for sure what I have!!! When I remove the tufts of algae and I squish it between my fingers it has a STRONG RAW SEWAGE SMELL!!!
SO IF that is what I am dealing with, and it is a pretty bad infestation, what would be my best course of action??? When I say pretty bad, I mean it has taken over most of my Staurogyne sp. Portovelho, it is on most of my stems of Limno. aromatica, It has to be in the crypts ans sword that have grown in a big mass in the back of the tank. It is also on my heater ( quarter size piece), on my Drop checker (between the fluid reservoir and air chamber, and 1 of my intakes to my 205s ( again about the size of a quarter):icon_excl:icon_excl:icon_excl So that only leaves my C. wendtii "mi Oya, and Bacopa Carolina without the DAMN CLADO!!!!
I was planning to install my new intake/spraybar sets on Monday, and I was also planning on removing the plants to remove some of the Black Beauty blasting grit/sand, because I put too much on top of the soil when I capped it!
But IF I do all of that work and install the plants that don't have the clado on them I think I will be dealing with the clado again in a short time! Correct?
So IF I understand it correctly the only way to be 100% sure to get rid of it would to be take the tank all the way down, boil the Driftwood, trash all of the plants, bleach the tank, and filter systems, heater, and every other piece of equipment that has been in the tank, and start from scratch!
I have a 20g I can put my fish in while the tank cycles again, BUT will the fish introduce the clado back into the aquarium after it cycles? I know they probably don't eat it, but what if they did???
:helpLEASE HELP!!!:help:
I would hate to install all of this new plumbing, reactor, and a few other things I am working on only to get the CRAP again!!!
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and help if you can!!!
Drew
