Leon,

I recently set up a 10g quarantine/hospital tank. I have the tank running 100% of the time. When setting up the tank, the first thing I did was up the temperature to 86 degrees to speed up the lifespan of ich. I've been treating the tank with an ich medicine to reduce the ich population.

Tonight I'm dropping the temperature to about 78 in preparation of getting fish tomorrow. I don't plan on medicating the tank again unless I see a problem develop.

It will seem like forever, but from what I have read 14 days is suggested for quaranteeing fish. The ich lifespan is about 7 days so I'm not sure what the extra time is for. If I leave the fish in the quarantee tank for nine days, I'll be surprised.

I was also seeing periodic outbreaks of ich. I read one article that suggested treating the tank up to three times to reduce the ich population. You'd treat the tank in 7 day cycles since the ich medication only affects one stage of ich. I've just now started treating the main tank is this manner. I treat the water for three days, wait four days, treat the tank three days...
