People tend to like to just plop pieces of driftwood on the substrate. I've never seen a tree roots just touch the bottom of a surface and not go in it, so that would be my only gripe. You could grow plants to cover where the driftwood touches the substrate or use your index finger and push the piece of wood down a few CM's and it'll look more natural.
