Great question... I haven't quite figured it out myself
He/she was a baby betta rescue from petco (I hate that they sell those babies that most people don't have a clue how to care for).
I actually am starting to believe it might be a female as he/she has an egg spot, but I have read that males can sometimes have these when they are young as well. The fins are pretty short though, so either it is a plakat or some sort of female. He/she really hasn't gotten much coloring yet either, I see tinges of blue in the right light, but that's it.
