I've been using the Python for at least 5 years and I've done masive water changes (30%-50%) in my rift tanks every 7-10 days and I don't add the dechlor until I'm done. I've never had a mysterious fish death that might be related to the change. I don't even measure the temp. I just put my hand under the water and if it feels close I put the water in. I think we have a habit of making things more complicated than they have to be. I know I do it all the time.
