Sounds like a plan! Also saves me the bother of warning you not to stick it directly in your tanks (post-hurricane disease outbreak here).
I always thought my water was very strange. It's soft but alkaline. If I try to raise alkalinity, the pH rockets up past 8.2. I leave it be and don't try to keep anything that isn't adaptable.
