75g High Tech Planted Discus Build!
I have been keeping planted tanks for years and recently decided I wanted to keep a planted discus tank. I have been countless hours of research on keeping discus and I feel I'm ready to try it out. Please feel free to suggest any of your knowledge/recommendations and I will post the progress of the tank on this thread.
I currently have a 75g cycled aquarium that I am going to tear down and rebuild for the discus.
Equipment:
Substrate: 5 9l bags of ADA Aqua Soil
Heater: Hydor 300w inline w/ hydroset thermometer
Light: Coralife 216W
Filter: Eheim G90 Professional 3 and Aquaclear 70
Co2: Pressurized co2 system with reef fanatic regulator, ph controller, solenoid
DIY Aquarium Stand
Lg Driftwood
Plants:
Italian Val
Amazon Sword
Red Flame Sword
Pennywort
Crypts
Riccia (as forground/driftwood)
Staurogyne repens (still need to find these)
Future Tank mates: Cardinal Tetras, Rasporas, and a pair of apistos
Questions:
I was planning on keeping the tank at 82 degrees for the plants sake, i have read that this isn't a problem because I'm getting captive bread discus which are more adaptable. Correct?
Would it be best to keep the discus in a separate tank (20g) until they have grown to be larger? (Plan on getting 3-4in)
Please post any relevant information/experience that you think will be of help!
Thanks,
Brendan
