You could try letting it dry out, then sanding/sawing a bit of it (in an inconspicuous area, or where you plan on cutting it to fit in the tank, etc.), and see if you detect any sort of resin/pine/cedar smell. If it just smells vaguely woody, it's probably fine. if you smell pine/cedar, you may want to avoid using it, or soak it longer.
