Oh great! I say, anything that's within budget is good. One great thing about a low tech tank is everything is slower. Growth of the plants is slower and so is the algae. It gives you a bit of wiggle room; however, should your lighting be any higher, I'm pretty sure your tank would have more than just thread algae. Water changes are a good thing as well!
