If you are new to shrimp keeping, this substrate can used immediately however the enzymes and biofilm necessary to support shrimp will require several weeks to develop. I am not referring to the beneficial bacteria of your traditional fish tank, which of course needs to cycle in due course to process waste. Anyway, I digress.
