Test your water parameters of your tap water and the tank to determine which species is most suitable. Rcs are generally cheaper and hardier Shrimp to start with.
if you are hoping to carpet with dhg, a dry start might be easier as the alternative may have you battling algae wtih livestock potentially getting hit in the fert/co2 crossfire of getting things balanced. starting off with rooted plants and adding shrimp afterwards would be the easiest method that would also get the results you seek. good luck
