I'm kind of new to this forum, and not sure about a few things, like...
60p = 60 gallon, planted?
Idk for sure what a pvc ugf is. Sounds like ALOT of small holes to drill though. lol
Also, I'm still new to plants. But, up until my recent venture into plants, I loved my ugf's. But now don't see myself using one again, as long as the tank will be planted(I tried it once on a 55g).
Ok, now that I've disclaimered myself... back to your subject.
I first got the idea of using an AC on ugf's from my brother. He done it all the time on his 40 and 55's. And I've done it a couple of times myself on smaller tanks.
Here's the one Tip I can give you for using an AC.
On the lift tube coming up to the AC. Always keep it above the water-line.
Neither me nor my brother "sealed" the intake tubes. Just put the AC's into the lift tube.
This keeps the water from by-passing the gravel. As in, taking the route of least resistance... over the top of the tube.
Something this(Not sealed) also does for you. Is kind of makes a flow meter. The further down the water goes(yes alot of variables intered here, but...) in the lift tube, the more clogged your ugf is. : )
