I am going to have to keep my eye out for some darters and logperches. I don't know if there are many in my particular area but I love the way they look.
There are some cool topminnows here that I'm going to attempt to breed. They're pretty nippy at guppies but not really at other fish, and take to flake food VERY fast. They are fundulus notatus, or blackstripe topminnow. They stick to the top in loose groups and spawn in plants.
I personally do not think many US fish need to be chilled, because if they can survive well in the summer in most places they can live at room temperature if not higher.
