as far as a terrestrial plant, dont do it. It needs to be at least 1/3 submerged, and does best in aquariums or very moist vivariums. I've learned from experience... pullet out a piece of wood, planted some baby java fern on it for about 30 mins. and kept dripping water drops on the leaves, but all the old big fern dried up and had black splotches on the leaves... bad, unhealthy, and ugly...
dont plant it terrestrially.
