Java fern is also a pretty slow growing plant, so you may as well not see any growth in a week. And if you want multiple plants, you can split the rhizome and each piece will grow on its own.

I...

I use avast as well, which even though free, is supposed to be better than a lot of commercial anti-virus.

You should also check out Threatfire, which I use as a supplement to my AV:...

I had several zigzag nerites until they some of them crawled out of my tank and died when I couldn't find them. The others just suddenly died in the tank (lack of algae I think). They were awesome...

In line with what Paula said, planaria infestations seems to be an indicator of poor water quality due to overfeeding or inadequate water changes.

With that said, my 1 g tank had a handful of...

I don't see any reason why you could not do it, besides getting it to fit with your hood. I would say the reason that HOB filters are normally seen on the back is because that's where the tank is...

In my limited experience, I don't think you need filtration. You have just 2 snails in there with a good amount of plants, which should balance each other out. If you are paranoid about excess...

I don't see anything wrong with your current filter as long as you keep it clean. Sure, you may have to clean it more often, but it should still be able to handle your tank. And if you run a chemical...

Do shrimp continuously eat?

Ok, so I know that fish are wired so that they will eat given any chance, so there is the potential of overfeeding them. Does the same run for shrimp?

I notice that whenever I drop a wafer in for...

Question What do you use for a tank mat?

After I setup my 14 g tank, I soon realized that I forgot to put any sort of mat underneath it. Not only does it look nicer, but it's handy for minor spills. So my 14 g will just have to wait until...

I've occasionally seen my otos gulp air. I like how when they dive back down, a bunch of little bubbles escape from their mouths - it looks cool.
