The leafs don't grow from the tips so if you're trimming it trim at the base or trim the leaf and wait for it to slowly start yellowing (very slowly though)

I do wonder though if there are some species that are more requiring of nutritious substrate than others. Like Erios and the like, or if the plants maturity changes its needs.

The red stem to the right of HC is myrio tuberculatum (or one of the other red myrio, idk how to ID them but tberculatum is the only one I know of that's widespread in the hobby).

No, if you cut off the leaf and replant (or was it float it...I forget which way worked for me) it it does eventually root and start producing new leafs. Those plants never grow the banana tubers...
