Keep your betta in his own tank. Killing things is his way of telling you he wants to be alone. Plus, male bettas tend to be stressed by irritatingly fast fish.
Let him stay on his own.

You should probably figure out if you still have a pleco in there... Lure it out with some raw shrimp, perhaps.
If you do have a pleco, it's likely that it's the culprit.

It depends on the fish. Best to add some veggie stuff in for most fish, but an all-frozen diet can work. They make frozen veggie mixes, if you prefer frozen foods.
