The one thing I don't like is having 120v hanging right over my open top tank. On my diy led fixtures I keep the drivers under the stand.

I've mounted 1w leds straight to aluminum before. I used a cheap thermal paste from ebay, but they didn't hold very well. I would go with them mounted to "stars" if I were to do it again.

I also would forget the UV's.

I did a bunch of calculations with 5050's and 3528's with hoppy's spreadsheet. The results didn't make sense to me, how could cheap low powered leds produce a greater par per watt than cree's.

Just build two identical 2x4 rectangles slightly larger than the base of the 10g`s. Cut 4 - 2x4`s for the legs and screw them to the sides. Smear some wood glue at any point they meet.
