I bought a mini surface skimmer and hooked it up...

I bought a mini surface skimmer and hooked it up to an azoo mignon hob filter. I love it. Health of my tank improved by orders of magnitude.

I've had luck filming the tank with the lights dimmed. In the finished product it still looks bright. Thats my completely amateur advice.

Dry ferts is really the way to go here. They last an extremely long time compared to the premade stuff. I'm going on a year and haven't made it through the first bag I ordered.
