Can you not lower the temp a click or two on the heater? this way the tank may drop to 74 -75 degree's F during the night, and maybe reach 78 degree's during the day not...

Water changes also provide mineral's that fish/plant's need....

I'll buy keeping dissolved organic's low via water changes(good practice) but,,, dissolved nutrient's are added to many many tanks on daily weekly basis without any algae for many folks ....
