I have had great success with playsand in my 29g...

I have had great success with playsand in my 29g tank. I plant directly into the sand and use seachem undergravel ferts. The plants seem to love it and I lightly dose the water column once per week...

Another thing you can do to soften the water and bring PH down would be to put Peat Moss in the filter. That has worked for me and has basicaly the same effect as the Bleackwater extract.

I think the 10 times rule is based on water "filtered" not water movement. I have a 65g that is running 2 filters one at 350gph and one at 250gph both full of various filter media. It is as close...

I used the cheap stuff at Wall Mart I don't know how easy it would be to remove... I imagine I could if I really wanted to. It took several cans and I let it truly dry out and defume before setting...

So I took it all down last night... Its drying so...

So I took it all down last night... Its drying so that I can get in there and clean and re silicone the tank.. I spread the fish out between a few different tanks and the plants are in a bucket...
