I posted here and someone told me to start dosing Calcium. I bought a bag of CACO3 from Gregg Watson and dosed 2 Tsp per week and it helped alot.

Fixing the problem does not cause existing algae to die - especially if you are talking about string or hair algae. I have used Algea Fix in the past to control these types...
