Bettas can get adult shrimp in their mouths -- cherries anyway. Some report no problems but I know of one person at least who tried it and found the shrimp were just expensive snacks for the Betta.

By the way, I do run a 20L with an airstone and DIY...

I got my Killifish at the Raleigh Aquarium Society annual (every year last weekend in February) auction -- always a great selection of fish!
