highlight will result in shorter more dense plants. Leggy plants are a result of lack of light so they reach as high as possible to get closer to the light

Your probably better off starting another tank with some amazonia or PH buffering substrate. It's not cheap but changing water parameters in a flourishing tank won't do the current inhabitants any...

Do you have CO2 or atleast excel?
