I always use it in my dirt tank. Maybe it can seep through the STS into the water column much easier than through dirt and sand. Should I wait it out? Or just pitch the substrate...

What baffled me was the 95% water change spiked back up in ammonia right away.
I have a small amount of osmocote plus under the 1.5 inches of STS....

I run 2 9watt CFL's in each of my 2 10 gallons. I find I need CO2 when I run the 13's. Also heat becomes an issue with the 13's. 9 watt is the sweet spot for my tanks with low-med light plants.

Just get a large sponge and cut it to fit in above the original sponge, or raise the stock sponge above the water line, or put an additional sponge under the the stock to raise the stock one higher...

I have been running one on my 10g dirt tank with no real complaints other than the sponge over the drip tray gets clogged pretty quick. I would Definetly recommend it over the aqua clear.
