You could do the math up front and then dose at full strength. Saves you the hassle of finding mixing containers and the mixing. BTW, the ratio appears to be 1.5% (Excel) versus 2.6% (Metricide)....

Re: bored with my job, what do you do for a living?

I was an advocate for folks with developmental disabilities, working for a small nonprofit. It ultimately was a combination of burnout and low wages that prompted the switch.

I was able to get...

Re: bored with my job, what do you do for a living?

After 10 years of social work and IT work on the side, I moved into software development and maintenance 7 years ago. My side IT work became an official business and is giving me as much extra work...

Re: Fertilizer Brand Change

I found that dry ferts give me the opportunity to tweak. With pre-mixed ferts, I am stuck with the ratios in the bottle.

That being said, getting the ferts out each day and measuring from...

Re: 6g Curved Rimless Cube!

I have read posts from folks who describe making baffles that they attach to the outflow of their hob. This allows them to have a lower water level without surface agitation. One poster made his out...

Re: use of a back ground?

It's personal choice, really. For my FW tanks, I am partial to a black background. For me, it keeps things clean by hiding filter hoses, etc.

There are photos of some rimless masterpieces in the...

Re: 6g Curved Rimless Cube!

I wonder if your hob filter's water return might be contributing to some co2 loss. Depending on your tank's water level, it could result in excess surface agitation.

Re: 6g Curved Rimless Cube!

Do you mean 5 drops of reagent and tank water? If so, that could be your problem. If you use 4DKH solution instead of tank water along with your reagent in your drop checker, you will have a...

Re: DIY Co2 on a timer without making a messy explosion

No 3 way solenoid needed... you only need a 2 way.

Run your co2 hose from your DIY bottle to a 'T'. One branch of the 'T' goes to your check valve and then your diffuser. The other branch goes to...

Re: Thoughts?

In terms of aquascaping, it looks crowded. The rocks look too big for the amount of space that you have.

No matter how complete your little closed ecosystem is, there invariably will be one...

I run CO2 inline with the intake. This is all anecdotal as I don't have clear PVC and cannot verify whether or not there is a CO2 pocket.

Last night, I compared the sound of the water going...

Good questions. The setup has been running for 4 days, so I can't speak of this for the long term. My guess is that if you follow Rex's design (making the reactor longer than mine) you should have no...

Re: Rex Grigg CO2 reactor - Eheim 2217

I would stick with Rex's most recent design, with the "t" fitting at the bottom for your outgoing barb to connect to. This is where the hose that goes to your cannister's intake connects. This...

Re: Fluval 205 as diffuser/reactor

I made an inline CO2 reactor for about $15 in parts for my 205. It was so easy and cheap to make, I made a second one. I followed Rex Grigg's design.

The tricky part is accommodating the 205's...

I have 60 lbs of eco-complete in my 29 and think I could possibly use another 10 or so.
