Those plants look to be Sandriana - nice in a pot on the windowsill, less so in an aquarium. Both your blue gouramis are male - females have short dorsals and anals.

Sounds like the Finnex is likely to be the better bet here, though possibly not with as rich of a spectrum - the sort that catches and enhances all colors?? The PAR at 24" does...

Kenyi and yellow labs don't _act_ the same, either. Yellow labs are pretty mild-mannered for mbuna, but kenyi have a reputation as stone cold finrippers. Pretty sure they get bigger than labs, too.

Sponge takes out larger particles, carbon smaller (chemical) stuff, ceramic tubes provide a home for bacteria...
